For us on Værøy, sustainability is not a buzzword — it is the foundation of everything we do. For generations we have lived from the sea, and we know that our future depends on responsible management of its resources.

Norwegian fisheries management is among the strictest in the world. Quotas are set based on scientific stock assessments, and the entire value chain is subject to rigorous oversight. This ensures fish stocks remain healthy for future generations.

Our stockfish production is based on one of the world's most resource-efficient preservation methods: natural drying in Arctic air, without additives or energy-intensive processes during drying.

Our sustainability pillars

Responsible Fishing

All fish we purchase is caught within scientifically determined quotas. We work exclusively with fishers who comply with Norwegian fisheries regulations and use sustainable catch methods.

Natural Production

Stockfish is dried naturally on wooden racks in the Arctic air — without electricity, additives or packaging during the drying process. It is preservation as nature intended.

Ocean Stewardship

We support research and initiatives that protect the marine ecosystems off Lofoten. Clean oceans and healthy stocks are the prerequisite for our business and the coastal communities we are part of.

Packaging and producer responsibility

Member of Grønt Punkt Norge

We take producer responsibility for our packaging through Grønt Punkt Norge. This means our packaging is reported and handled within an approved system for collection, material recycling and responsible resource use.

Norwegian fisheries management

World-leading resource management

Norway has one of the world's most advanced fisheries management systems. The Institute of Marine Research conducts annual stock assessments that form the basis for quota setting.

Strict regulations ensure fisheries are operated sustainably. Monitoring, reporting and control throughout the value chain guarantee traceability from sea to table.

The result is healthy fish stocks and a thriving coastal community that can continue to deliver seafood of the highest quality for generations to come.
